Prophecy Update: Gog and the rise of Russia 8/10/23
The war between Russia and NATO on the territory of Ukraine has prophetic implications. God gave a vision to Ezekiel about a future war that would include primarily Russia, Iran, Turkey and Israel. A coalition of nations led by Russia will attack Israel from the north and attempt to take over Israel and steal her rich resources. Israel is very rich in gas, oil, and agriculture. The Dead Sea has been a treasure trove of minerals and material important to modern technological advances. Today, Russia suffers the same intolerance of Jews that it did when they wiped out Jews in the 1880 pogroms. A pogrom is a Russian word which means to wreak havoc.
“Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him. and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal.” Ezekiel 38:2-3
Gog is a specific title to a leader that God mentions several times in the scriptures. “The prophetic prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal, and Magog. Josephus says, “Magog founded those that from him were named Magogites, but who are by the Greeks called Scythians” (Ant. 1:6, 1).” Vladimir Putin is the leader of Russia, and he acts as he might be the man who will fulfill this prophecy. Having a close relationship with the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church has also afforded him a place as a Christian leader. Some newspapers have also printed the fiction that Putin is the savior of Christianity in Europe. Unfortunately, that fiction comes with an intolerance of Jews. The Jews suffer as the least tolerated religious minority in Russia.
Here is a brief history of the intolerance of Jews in Russia:
1727: Catherine I expelled all Jews.
1742: Elizabeth I reorders expulsion of Jews but makes an exception for those Jews who convert to the Russian Orthodox Church.
1790-1917 Jews are not permitted to live where they want but are assigned areas by the government. This leads to murder and stealing of property. The territory would be in what is Ukraine and Belarus primarily. Remember the movie ‘Fiddler on the Roof’? It highlights the time when Jews were kicked out of their homes.
1880-1890: Pogroms broke out leading to the murder of Jews all over the Russian territory and especially in Kiev, Belarus, Minsk, Lithuania, and Poland.
Odessa: The pogroms started in 1821 and did not let up until after the holocaust of the 1940’s. In 1942, over 34,000 Jews were massacred. The Greek and Russian Orthodox churches showed hatred and evil intent towards the Jews which was fed in the city for over 100 years. For over 1000 years, since its founding in 990, the Russian Orthodox Church went along with the government’s decision to execute antisemitic law. During the Holocaust itself, the Catholic, Orthodox, and Lutheran churches supported and or decided to not protest the evil treatment of the Jews.
During the Nazi invasion into Russia, the Germans, Ukrainians, and Belarussians, murdered over 1.5 million Jews. After WW2, the Russians had to recover from the war and in 1948 they started a new wave of antisemitism. From 1948-1952, Jews were targeted in businesses and the universities and were fired from their jobs. This led to the execution of 24 Jewish leaders by the communists in 1952. Stalin planned a new wave of pogroms.
That brings us to the current war in Ukraine. It is difficult to work through all of the disinformation from both sides. The pro Ukrainian side says that the Russians are losing, and the pro Russia side says that Ukraine is losing. I have tried to pay more attention to military assessments that talk of the reality of the positions each nation finds itself. One thing is sure, and I put this out there for your own consideration; The Biblical view of these lands says that they will be used to launch an attack on Israel in the future. Half of Ukraine, at least, is Magog territory and that means it must be under Russian control before the biblical war commences! Currently, Russia controls 27% of Ukraine. Neither Russia nor Ukraine have given up their antisemitic attitudes!
On Russian state TV, today they are saying that the Russian army is advancing 10 kilometers (about 6.21 mi) each day. They pronounced that Berlin and Paris will be ours. They also said that they will reclaim Alaska as their own. The Russians are growing in confidence. Why?
My theory is that Russia must gain in confidence because God says He will put a hook into their jaw and drag them down into Israel. The hook has to include confidence of military success. Russia must have some victories in its current war to gain the confidence they need to unite other nations in the attempt to take out Israel. It will not be hard to convince the Muslim nations to go to war with Israel. However, the Muslim nations have lost four wars against Israel in the last 75 years, starting in 1948. God is giving Russia more success so He can drag them down to Israel and judge them there for all the evil they have done in the earth!
“I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them splendidly attired, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them wielding swords” Ezekiel 38:4
“After many days you will be summoned; in the latter years you will come into the land that is restored from the sword, whose inhabitants have been gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel which had been a continual waste; but its people were brought out from the nations, and they are living securely, all of them.” Ezekiel 38:8
Here is a confidence building thought for you. Twenty Five percent of reservists in Israel said they will not fight for the country because of the judicial reform. I do not think this is true because in the end these guys will fight. But, if you are an enemy of Israel, you will be jumping with glee. The Russians are pushing a narrative that says, Russia can unite nations better than the USA or NATO. The latest attempt at this messaging is Africa. Several African nations are turning to Russia and seeking to kick the Americans and French out. Niger is a case in point. There was a coup in Niger and the people of the country were flying the Russian flag and burning the French flag. Russia is gaining in popularity for their anti-western posture.
“On Aug. 3-5, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) lost 2,040 additional men, bringing Ukrainian casualties to over 45,000 since the beginning of the “Counter-Offensive” June 4. I did a study on the German attack on Russia in WW2. The operation was called Barbarossa and Germany sent 3 million men to invade. They were divided into three army groups to invade on three different routes. The southern attack went through Ukraine and conquered Kiev on their way to Odessa, Army group north went to Leningrad and Army group center went to Moscow. Of course, as you know, Germany failed. I bring this up because who thinks that an army of less than one million can conquer Russia as our generals proclaim on American news. Napolean could not defeat Russia, Germany could not do it with three million men, and now we can do it with 200,000 Ukrainians? Do not be blinded by the Ukraine war, the real war is coming in Israel.
Every day, Russia flies its planes towards the Golan Heights where the war will take place. Russia is joined in its flights by Iranian and Syrian fighters. Israel still bombs in and around Damascus to protect itself from the buildup of troops in Syria. Those troops are designed for war with Israel. Russia is so confident of its abilities that it openly talks about taking over Istanbul. This is the capital of Turkey and Russia wants it back.
For a thousand years, Russia has had a vision of Constantinople as the centre of Russian power. Can any parallel instance be found, in which a nation has held fast to one great idea for a thousand years, through all vicissitudes of fortune, and all changes in government, religion, and civilization? A big reason for the Russian dream is a church called the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople. The Turks call it Istanbul and they have angered the Russians by what they did with the church.
“Turkish Council of State decided to change the status of Hagia Sophia from the museum to the mosque, as requested by Erdogan’s AKP Government. The Russian Orthodox Church expressed dismay at Turkey’s decision to revoke the museum status of Hagia Sophia, accusing it of ignoring voices of millions of Christians. Built in the 6th century in honour of Christ the Saviour, this church is of great importance to the whole Orthodoxy. And it is especially dear to the Russian Church. Prince Vladimir’s envoys stepped across the threshold of this church and were captivated by its heavenly beauty. Putin threatened Turkey at that time in 2020 and he has vowed that the Hagia Sophia will be in Russian hands before he leaves office. Putin is friendly towards Iran who is on opposition to Turkey. As Turkish forces have entered parts of Syria in the north, there have been very sensitive meetings so that Turkish forces do not get entangled with Iranian forces. Iran is the number one ally of Russia in the Middle East. This next article sheds some light on how this war can start:

When I was in Israel in 2014 we were told that the war would start in the north with Hezbollah. Today, that is a reality because Hezbollah has started laying the foundation for the attack. The reason for the meeting between Iran and Hezbollah is to coordinate the attack. Here is how the article paints this picture:

We’ve seen katyusha rocket fire, tents being erected inside Israeli territory and members of the Lebanon-based terror group attempting to disrupt the military in its operations. The war of Ezekiel 38-39 will take place when God drags Russia down to Israel with a hook in its jaw. God is very clear that Russia thinks that it will gain riches in this endeavor. I believe that Israel will win a war with its neighbors, and this will bring Russia into the mix. The Russians are still to this day showing disdain for Israel and Jews, soon they will try to complete one of their other dreams, to destroy the Jews. They will fail!

The antisemitic forces in America are at work in the congress to shut down aid to Israel. I think that America is at a crossroads on a lot of issues, least of which is our relationship to the God of Israel. God does not like it when nations attack the apple of His eye. There are repercussions for such behavior. Add to that the immoral filth spewing from Washington D.C. Which they push around the world, and we have the perfect storm of God’s judgment on America. Pray for our nation!
